approaching the steakhouse

ventured into south london last night for a taste of south america. had a fantastic meal half a cow at the argentinian grill constancia for hard-core meat lovers only. i felt only marginally disturbed by the photo of a woolly headed cow staring at me reproachfully from a pampas pasture as i wolfed down my bife de lomo - an enormous piece of rare fillet augmented by home made chimichurri- which as my companion pointed out is a kind of latin pesto with chilli.

and this … on leaving. (after a bottle of argentinian malbec, admittedly)

argentina beef. Mmm

 Argentina and Uruguay’s tango row

carlos gardel, one of the great figures of argentinian tango, is the source of a serious row between the home of the tango and its neighbouring country, uruguay. the escapades of gardel’s father certainly give lie to the idea that any might have that uruguay might be some kind of staid and sleepy backwater.
